Ahlia University holds 2nd IT College post graduate symposium

Ahlia University president Professor Mansoor Al-A’ali expressed his pride in the achievement of the professors of Information Technology College and its students in a number of research studies that were conducted in cooperation with Bahraini ministries and institutions such as Health and Interior. He also stressed on the fact that improving society and contributing effectively to the development challenges it faces is the real goal behind scientific research.

In his opening speech at the 2nd IT College post graduate symposium, the university president, Professor Mansoor Al-A’ali, expressed his thanks and appreciation to Dean of the Faculty of Information Technology Dr. Wasan Awad, IT College CEAB member Mr. Ahmed Al-Hujairi and the faculty professors and students for their remarkable efforts and achievements in their research. In addition to that, Al-A’ali stressed the importance of their research, which serves the Kingdom of Bahrain and make it a pioneer in the field of research.

The university president stressed that each graduate student should have at least one research paper published in one of the leading journals, encouraging students to pay more attention to scientific research both in their academic studies and after their graduation from university.

For her part, Dean of the college of Information Technology, Dr. Wasan Awad, delivered a speech in which she stressed the college’s ambition for more interest in scientific research. At the same time she stressed on the importance of organizing such research symposium for MITCS students so they can be evaluated effectively.  Also, she pointed out that these discussions are related to industry needs and new technology.

The Dean of the College commended the students’ dissertations. Besides that, she emphasized the fact that several dissertations addressed issues and concerns of Bahraini ministries and institutions.

Mr. Ahmed Al-hujiari, IT College CEAB member, spoke about the reality of the labour market in the future in the light of the growing role and effectiveness of information technology, he said that information technology is the most important future in the economy today, and a huge number of jobs will shrink and gradually disappear, and as technology creates new jobs, only the Qualified academics and who has professional qualifications in information technology will have a better chance to fill it .

Dr. Yousif Al-Bastaki, an associate professor at Ahlia University, presented a paper entitled electronic nose technologies and applications, while the paper of his colleague assistant professor Dr. Karim Hajjar entitled new approach for scheduling tasks and/or jobs in big data cluster. For his part, Assistant Professor Dr. Sohail Safdar presented a paper entitled anti shoulder surfing based authentication mechanism using graphical passwords.

It is noteworthy that IT College at Ahlia University offers two bachelor’s programs, one is in Information Technology (BSIT), and a Bachelor’s Degree in Multimedia systems (BSMS), as well as a Master’s Program in Information Technology and Computer Science (MITCS), all of which have been rated as “trustworthy” in reports As well as all academic programs Ahlia University offers and that have been evaluated and approved by the Council of Ministers.
