An Ahlia University team is representing Bahrain at the global finals of the Huawei ICT Competition, which got underway in Shenzhen, China, bringing together top university teams from across the world to compete in one of the technology sector’s most prestigious international contests.
The competition, which runs until July 11, features finalists who successfully advanced through national and regional qualifying rounds in several specialised categories. Ahlia University’s team qualified for the Computing Track after progressing through the earlier stages of the competition.
The Bahraini delegation is led by Dr. Wasan Shaker Awad from the College of Information Technology and includes students Maryam Salman and Ayat Manwar, who will compete alongside teams representing leading universities from Asia, Europe, Africa, the Americas and the Middle East.
The team’s qualification reflects the growing presence of Bahraini students on international technology platforms and highlights the university’s continued focus on preparing graduates with advanced technical knowledge and practical skills capable of meeting global industry standards.
The achievement is the result of sustained academic and technical preparation under the supervision of Dr Awad, who has played a leading role in mentoring students, strengthening their computing capabilities and encouraging participation in regional and international technology competitions that promote innovation, problem-solving and professional excellence.
The participation in the global finals demonstrates Ahlia University’s commitment to providing an educational environment that nurtures talented students and enables them to compete internationally through programmes that combine academic excellence with practical application.
The Huawei ICT Competition is regarded as one of the world’s leading university technology competitions, attracting thousands of students from higher education institutions worldwide each year.
