Ahlia University Hosts Workshop on Positive Crisis Management and Student Wellbeing

The Student Counselling Directorate, in collaboration with Salwan Psychiatric Hospital, organised an online awareness session aimed at helping students develop effective strategies for managing challenges and maintaining psychological wellbeing. The event, titled “Positive Crisis Management”, was presented by Dr. Jassim Al-Muhannadi and attracted strong student participation, reflecting growing awareness of the importance of mental health and resilience in academic life.
During the session, Dr. Al-Muhannadi encouraged students to view crises and setbacks as opportunities for personal growth and development rather than obstacles. He emphasised the importance of understanding challenges, analysing their causes and adopting practical approaches to overcoming them.
Participants were introduced to a range of techniques designed to strengthen resilience, including time management, reflective thinking, positive self-dialogue and problem-solving skills. The session also highlighted the value of maintaining a balanced perspective when facing academic and personal pressures.
Drawing on examples relevant to university life, Dr. Al-Muhannadi discussed how academic difficulties, including examination setbacks and course failures, can serve as opportunities to reassess study habits, improve learning strategies and build greater confidence for future success.
The workshop also addressed common misconceptions surrounding psychological support, stressing that seeking professional help is a positive and responsible step that can contribute to improved mental wellbeing and personal development.
University officials said the initiative forms part of Ahlia University’s ongoing efforts to support students beyond the classroom by promoting wellbeing, resilience and personal growth alongside academic achievement. They noted that collaboration with specialised healthcare institutions such as Salwan Psychiatric Hospital helps strengthen student support services and encourages a culture in which seeking guidance and assistance is viewed as a normal and constructive practice.
The event is one of a series of programmes organised by the University to enhance students’ personal and professional development, reflecting its commitment to creating a supportive educational environment that prepares graduates to meet academic, social and workplace challenges with confidence.
