Ahlia University Library hosted a special event to launch “Poetic Works”, the latest book by Prof. Ali Omran, Professor of Rhetoric and Discourse Analysis at the College of Arts and Sciences. The launch was part of the University’s “Showcasing Academic Achievements” initiative, which aims to highlight faculty creativity and promote academic research. It was attended by academic and administrative staff, students, and cultural enthusiasts.
In her opening remarks, Ms. Manayer Naseeb, Director of Library and Information Resources, said that this initiative reflects the University’s commitment to celebrating the scientific and creative contributions of its faculty. She added: “Ahlia University believes that creativity shines brightest when it is seen and valued, and that academic contribution lies at the core of its educational mission.”
Prof. Omran shared insights into his poetic journey, spanning over two decades of literary and critical work. He described his book as the result of two years of creative and scholarly effort, combining Arabic text, English translation, and photography into a cohesive artistic presentation. The book explores the interaction between words and images, merging art with thought.
He noted that the work seeks to go beyond traditional poetry, creating a broader space for aesthetic and human interaction. “Poetry can serve as a bridge between languages and cultures,” Prof. Omran said, “and my project aims to present Arabic poetry in a contemporary form and humane depth that speaks to all.”
The launch concluded with the presentation of a commemorative trophy to Prof. Omran in recognition of his literary and intellectual contributions, marking a celebration of creativity and cultural achievement at the University.
