From Continuous Assessment to Virtual Lab Ahlia University Reinvents the Remote Learning Experience

Ahlia University has reaffirmed its commitment to advancing the quality of education and ensuring the continuity of the academic process through an expanded virtual meeting focused on enhancing remote learning. The meeting was led by the Founding President and Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Professor Abdulla Yousif Abdulwahab Al-Hawaj, and attended by the University President Professor Mansoor Alaali, alongside academic and administrative representatives from various colleges. Discussions centred on improving the effectiveness of interactive e-learning, refining academic assessment methods, and strengthening the overall student experience in a digital environment.

Opening the meeting, Prof. Al-Hawaj highlighted that national efforts to maintain stability and security serve as a strong incentive for educational institutions to continue delivering their mission with efficiency and responsibility. He stressed that Ahlia University remains aligned with the Higher Education Council’s directives to ensure uninterrupted learning through a comprehensive and technologically robust virtual system.

He also pointed to the University’s experience during the Covid-19 pandemic as a foundation for a more advanced e-learning model, praising the commitment of students and the dedication of faculty and administrative staff in maintaining a stable and effective academic environment. “Ahlia University has demonstrated its ability to adapt swiftly to change, guided by accumulated expertise and a firm institutional focus on quality education,” he said.

Prof. Al-Hawaj underlined that attendance and participation in virtual classes are essential components of the academic system and are monitored through structured mechanisms that ensure fairness and consistency across both online and on-campus learning.

Presenting an executive vision for enhancing assessment in digital learning, Prof. Mansoor Alaali emphasised the importance of continuous, multi-stage evaluation methods that promote student engagement and strengthen analytical and practical skills. He explained that this approach, spanning draft preparation, presentations, discussions, and final submissions, helps deepen understanding and encourages students to take a more active role in their learning. He added that recorded sessions provide valuable academic references for students.

Participants also explored expanding the use of virtual laboratories and simulation tools, alongside the integration of artificial intelligence applications into selected learning activities, while maintaining academic quality standards. In this context, Dr. Maria Saberi noted that stage-based learning improves student engagement, explaining that dividing tasks into workshops, interactive presentations, and immediate feedback transforms assessment into a more comprehensive learning experience.

Speakers further stressed the need to modernise assessment systems in line with the evolving nature of e-learning, while maintaining a balance between academic flexibility and integrity through the use of reliable digital tools. The importance of sustained academic communication was also highlighted, with participants calling for continuous interaction between faculty and students, regular monitoring of research progress, and ongoing academic support.

Prof. Mukhtar Al-Hashimi emphasised the role of social media in showcasing the University’s achievements through concise, research-based content that reflects academic excellence and strengthens community engagement.

Dr. Fatima Al-Dhaen underscored that active participation in virtual classrooms is key to the success of remote learning, noting that student engagement directly contributes to improved learning outcomes.

The meeting also demonstrated strong collaboration among faculty members, with participants exchanging best practices in virtual classroom management and student assessment.

Concluding the meeting, Prof. Al-Hawaj said teamwork remains fundamental to advancing education and delivering a well-rounded academic experience built on quality, engagement, and sustainability.

The outcomes of the meeting reaffirmed Ahlia University’s direction towards an integrated educational model that combines human interaction with modern technologies, meeting the demands of contemporary education while maintaining high academic standards and readiness for future challenges.
