  • 2010 _ Received her Postgraduate degree in Urban studies of the built environment from the Bauhaus college in Dessau, Germany

Biography

May Al Saffar joined the Ahlia University in 2012 – present as an instructor in the department of interior design, college of arts and science. She is also the secretary of the Arts and Sciences College Council, a member in the AU students Admission Committee, Interior Design Internal Verification Committee, Interior Design Graduation Students Committee, and Advisory Board and Surveys Committee.

Prior to joining the AU, May served as an Architect, interior designer and urban designer in well-known design firms in Bahrain such as Ahmed Janahi Architects, Jalal Engineering, Apex Green and AAA homes. She also has served as a visiting faculty, Kingdom University (BAH), Researcher in the Bauhaus Dessau Foundation, Germany, and a Teaching and Research Assistant in the United Arab University during her PhD studies (UAE). She also participated as external juror for graduation projects and design studios in the University of Bahrain and abroad.

May holds a PhD in Architectural Engineering (history and theory of architecture); United Arab Emirates University (UAE). She also holds a MSc Degree in Sustainable Design for the Built Environment; The British University in Dubai, Associated with Cardiff University (UK).
