Biography

Zainab Abdul-Nabi’s most recent scholarly monograph was published by Palgrave Macmillan (Springer), an A-class publisher in 2022. Additionally, her latest quantitative papers have been published in the top 25% (Q1) of journals within the Mass Communication field, including prestigious publications such as the International Journal of Communication and New Media and Society.

After receiving the Australian Postgraduate Award (APA) in 2014, Zainab completed her PhD in Peace and Conflict Studies (specializing in Peace Journalism) at the University of Sydney (USYD) in Australia in 2017.

She also holds a master’s degree in Journalism (with Distinction) from the University of Wollongong (UOW) in Australia (2010 – 2011).

She achieved inclusion in the Dean’s Excellence List while completing a Bachelor’s degree in Mass Communication and Public Relations from University of Bahrain in 2006.

Acknowledged for substantial scholarly contributions to the University of Sydney (USYD), she was appointed as an Honorary Associate in 2021.

Since January 2023, Zainab has joined the Graduate Journalism Institute at National Taiwan University as a visiting scholar, having won the competitive global award, the Taiwan Fellowship.

From 2014 to 2019, she taught Media and Communication courses at USYD and the University of New South Wales (UNSW) in Australia. These courses encompassed Social Media, Mobile Cultures, Global Media, Media and Everyday Life, Radio Broadcasting, Media in Asia Pacific, and Media Industry Context.

On the professional development front, Zainab was awarded the Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults (CELTA), an internationally recognized teacher training and certification program by Cambridge University in 2021.
