Professor Jasim Al-Ajmi holds a doctorate in finance from the esteemed University of Exeter in the United Kingdom.
Prior to his tenure at Ahlia University, Professor Al-Ajmi occupied a tenured faculty position at the University of Bahrain, where he attained successive promotions, culminating in his appointment as an associate professor and later a full professor. Furthermore, his dedication to education extended to roles as an Adjunct Professor at both the Arabian Gulf University and Maryland University – International Division. During these appointments, he offered a diverse array of courses, encompassing both conventional and Islamic finance. His instructional repertoire included courses such as corporate finance, investment strategies, portfolio management, Islamic banking, valuation techniques, credit analysis, financial modeling, fintech innovations, financial econometrics, corporate governance, financial institutions, and risk management.
Professor Al-Ajmi’s influence also reverberates within the sphere of academic research, where his body of work comprises a substantial collection of articles published in Scopus and ISI-indexed journals. His research traverses diverse dimensions of the financial landscape, spanning disciplines including accounting, finance, Islamic finance, corporate governance, risk management, market efficiency, financial analysis, and regulatory technology (Regtech).
Beyond the confines of academia, Professor Al-Ajmi actively engages in corporate, executive, and director training, with a particular focus on finance, valuation methodologies, adherence to corporate governance requirements, board evaluations, and the emerging realm of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG).
Moreover, Professor Al-Ajmi’s professional portfolio extends to consultancy services, where he imparts his expertise in the domain of corporate governance. His consultancy scope is broad, encompassing areas such as board evaluations, the formulation of robust corporate governance frameworks, strategies for corporate borrowing and restructuring, valuation techniques, and initiatives aimed at bolstering organizational productivity.
Furthermore, Professor Al-Ajmi commands esteemed authority in the realm of quality assurance. He has spearheaded numerous review panels entrusted with the evaluation of programs seeking accreditations, and his consultative guidance has been pivotal in steering these programs toward successful accreditation outcomes.
Moreover, Professor Jasim currently holds the positions of Vice Chair on the Board of Directors at the MENA Investment Center, Director at the Foundation for Insurance and Finance Education (FIFE) in Bahrain and Cyprus, serves as a Digital Faculty Consultant for McGraw Hill Higher Education, and works as a banking advisor at Getdaleel, a fintech firm.
Professor Al-Ajmi served as a committee member tasked with drafting the Bahrain Procurement Law and played a pivotal role as a committee member in formulating the Bahrain Corporate Governance Code. He also served as a board member of Eskan Bank.
Before embarking on his academic career, Jasim held roles in the banking sector, contributing his expertise to institutions such as the Bank of Bahrain and Kuwait as well as ABC Bank.
