Ahlia University hosted a dynamic student debate as part of the Ahlia Entrepreneurship and Innovation Forum, exploring the question: “Entrepreneurship or employment, which shapes the future?”
The forum brought together two student teams presenting contrasting perspectives, with one advocating entrepreneurship as a driver of innovation and opportunity creation, while the other highlighted employment as a pathway to stability and structured career growth. The debate witnessed strong engagement from both academic and student audiences.
Dr. Amani Alaali, Director of the Ahlia Center for Entrepreneurship, stated that the debate aimed to promote innovation, critical thinking, and alignment with labor market needs, noting the high level of interaction during the session.
The debate was moderated by student Nasser Jalil, who emphasized that the objective was to encourage dialogue and help students make informed career decisions in light of ongoing economic and technological transformations.
The entrepreneurship team argued that entrepreneurs play a key role in creating job opportunities, driving sustainable economic impact, and adapting to rapid changes, while fostering professional and financial independence.
In contrast, the employment team highlighted the benefits of stable income, clear career progression, institutional experience, and work-life balance, emphasizing the essential role of employees in sustaining successful organizations and economic stability.
The discussion addressed key themes including job security, career risks, post-graduation opportunities, and the potential to transition between career paths, in addition to the supportive environment for startups in Bahrain.
At the conclusion of the debate, the audience voted in favor of the entrepreneurship team, recognizing the strength of their arguments. The event was widely praised for the quality of discussion and the level of student engagement.
