The Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Business and Financial Sciences at Ahlia University aims to prepare a new generation of researchers capable of addressing complex business and financial challenges through critical analysis, scientific reasoning, and innovative approaches. The programme emphasizes producing high-quality, Arabic-language research that is regionally relevant and aligned with global academic standards. Offered by the College of Business and Finance, recognized for its research productivity in Bahrain, the programme is supported by a distinguished faculty with strong academic and international affiliations, ensuring rigorous supervision and impactful scholarly contributions that support regional development and the global knowledge economy.

The programme consists of 66 credit hours, structured into three main components:

  • Prospectus (9 credit hours)
  • Thesis (48 credit hours)

Entry Requirements

Admission to Ahlia University (AU) is selective based on academic achievements. Applications are welcomed from all students regardless of race, colour, gender, religion, nationality, physical or learning disability. Admission is purely based on merit.

Programme Specific Requirements

Admission to the programme is subject to the following terms and conditions, which constitute the official entry requirements.

Required Specialisation
  • Recognised master’s degree or its equivalent in business and finance related disciplines.
  • Applicants must hold a degree from a university officially recoginsed in their home country.
  • Applicants who hold a recogised master’s degree in disciplines other than the business and finance, may requested to take and pass the following Foundation Courses:
  • PHDB600: Specialised Studies in Business and Finance.
  • PHDB601: Specialised Studies in Economics and Business Statistics.

*Foundation Courses Credit hours are NOT Counted towards the total credit hours necessary for the PhD.

Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) Requirement Minimum CGPA required at the master’s degree ≥ 3.00 or its equivalent.

Pass English Placement Test ≥ 70%
Academic Recommendation Submission of two academic recommendations from referees with direct knowledge of the applicant’s academic and professional record. Letters should be submitted directly to the Office of Admission and Registration.
Passing Interview Applicants must pass the interview.
Statement of Interest Applicants must submit a statement of interest presented within a maximum of (750-1000 words in Arabic language, detailing their motivations, goals they aim to achieve, and how their academic background and qualifications will support their success, in addition to their future plans.
