Biography

Ali H. Harmouch received his B.S. degree in Wireless Communications (with distinction) from Moscow Technical University of Telecommunication and Informatics (MTUCI), Moscow, Russia, in 1996. Later he has been accepted by the Department of Radar and Navigation Systems where he accomplished his Master studies in 1998 (with distinction).

In 1995, he joined he had the chance to join the research team in the department of Antennas and Applied Electromagnetics, where he succeeded to publish some papers and to receive his first patent in 1996. Later, after receiving his Master diploma, he was selected among foreign graduates to be the winner of the university annual scholarship for continuing his PhD studies at the same institution. At the same time, his research activities have been financially supported by a Saudi Association.

In 2001 he accomplished his PhD thesis in the field of Small and Broadband Antennas for Mobile Applications, where he also published several papers and obtained two patents during the PhD thesis period.

During his PhD studies he was appointed as a Graduate Teaching Assistant in the Antenna’s Department at MTUCI where he taught courses on Antennas & Applied Electromagnetics and supervised couple of Master projects.

In 2002 he joined Belize University (In the Caribbean – Central America) as an English language student and later as a teaching assistant at the faculty of Science (Department of Mathematics).

In 2004, he joined some Lebanese Universities as a part-time assistant professor such as Balamand University, Notre Dame University, Rafik Hariri University, American University of Science and Technology, Al Manar University and some others.

In 2008, he has joined the Lebanese University, Faculty of Engineering, First Branch, and was promoted to Associate Professor in 2009. He has been an active member in the LASTER research group at the doctoral school of the Lebanese University for about ten years. His current research interests include the use of numerical methods in electromagnetics to model antennas for mobile communications; invent new antenna models useful for aerospace technologies, missile technologies and also for oil drilling devices.

Dr. Harmouch has published more than 20 journal papers, more than 50 conference papers and also obtained 5 international and national patents in his field of interest. In addition to that he has supervised tens of Master Thesis projects and about 5 PhD thesis in collaboration with French Institutions such as Rennes 1, INSA Rennes and Paris-Tech and organized many national and international conferences.

In 1998, he was awarded The Trophy of Culture by the Minister of Higher education, and also by various Lebanese associations for his continuous innovations.

In 2019 he has been awarded as a distinguished researcher by the President of the Lebanese University as well by the Minister of Higher Education.

Dr. Harmouch has been selected as a chair of the ICT society (2017-2019) at the Orders of Engineers in Tripoli as well as a member of the Scientific Committee. In 2019 he has been elected to be board member at the Orders of Engineers (Tripoli) and mainly the head of Branch 5. In 2018, he was also appointed as the Lebanon’s representative at the ARAB ICT Committee within the Federation of Arab Engineers.
