About the degree programme

The MSMCPR is a full time postgraduate professional degree in which students complete two years beyond undergraduate work in mass communication and public relations or cognate fields. The programme is designed to endow seasoned communication professionals, in public relations and media related organisations, as well as recent graduates, with a higher level of skill and knowledge in various sub-specialties in mass communication and public relations.
A degree candidate in this field can concentrate on either mass communication or public relations or can elect to write a dissertation in lieu of specialisation coursework. Students who opt for a degree in mass communication will be eligible to assume a variety of positions in media organisations ranging from journalism to broadcasting. Alternatively, students who opt for a public relations specialisation will be eligible to assume positions as public relations associates at advertising firms and as staff members in public relations departments in corporations and government organisations.
All students from any academic background are eligible to apply. Students with no undergraduate background in media studies, journalism and communication will be required to take two foundation courses before proceeding to the core courses.
The MSMCPR is a two year full time professional degree and is also appropriate for current incumbents in the media industry desiring to enhance their promotion potential in their chosen career track, non-media managers wishing to move into communication or public relations positions and seasoned senior level media executives wishing to obtain an academic background in the field of MCPR which would enable them to improve the effectiveness of their media decision making. All students holding a recognised Bachelor’s degree in any academic field are eligible to apply for the MSMCPR. The language of instruction in this specialisation is approximately 70%,30%, Arabic, English.
To earn the Master’s Degree requires students completion of 36 credits. Every candidate must complete the core courses (18 credits) and choose two courses (6 credits) from an elective core. At that juncture , students either opt for a project dissertation or dissertation track. Regardless of the track chosen the degree candidates need to specialise in either mass communication or public relations. In the project dissertation track, students choose three elective courses (9 credits) from the chosen field of specialisation plus the project dissertation course 598 (3 credits). In the dissertation track students write a dissertation equivalent to 12 credits.
