The Bachelor’s Degree programme in Mobile and Network Engineering (BSMNE) is a broad-based programme that provides the student with the technical knowledge and skills required to plan, design, construct and maintain telecommunications networks, equipment and facilities. This programme emphasizes an in-depth understanding of the technologies that support the local and global broadband digital networking, and mobile communication systems that are required for tomorrow’s broadband-interactive information transmission.

Through this programme, students acquire an in-depth knowledge in wireless and mobile communications, Computer networks, network design, Network switching and routing, mobile device programmeming, modern digital and analogue communication systems, and multimedia service convergences ensuring that graduates are fully prepared for employment within the sector. The several network courses embedded within the curriculum prepare students for professional certification such as Cisco CCNA and CCNP

Programme Aims

The aim of the programme is to enable graduates to:

  • To equip learners with in-depth knowledge and skills necessary to exhibit sustainable competence in the fields of mobile and network engineering in accordance with national and international standards.
  • To enable learners to identify and solve multifaceted problems in their area of specialization with a view to designing, analyzing, implementing and managing efficient solutions germane to current Engineering technologies.
  • To empower learners to successfully pursue careers as mobile and network engineers motivated to engage in research and life-long learning in ways that serve the societal needs.
  • To instill in learners, who contribute productively to society through responsible professional engineering practice, norms of ethical behavior.

Career Opportunities

Graduates from the department of Telecommunication Engineering have the opportunity to work  as Mobile Communications Engineer, Network Engineer, System Engineer, Mobile Network Planning Engineer, RF Cellular Engineer, and Network/ IT administrator. Besides, they have the opportunity to be instructors in universities after continuing their higher studies.

Entry Requirements

To be eligible for consideration for admission at the undergraduate level, an applicant should normally hold a recently issued recognized secondary school certificate or its equivalent. The requirements for admission stated by the University are in all cases the minimum demanded for admission, and their fulfilment by a candidate does not automatically ensure his /her selection. Prior to enrolling at Ahlia University, citizens of non-GCC States should secure residence permits in the Kingdom of Bahrain; otherwise, their admission will be conditional and subject to being rescinded at the discretion of the University

English Language Proficiency

Applicants must demonstrate a level of English proficiency consistent with the demands of an academic programme taught and assessed almost exclusively in the English language. This can be done in one of the following ways:

  • Submission of an internationally recognized certificate of English language proficiency, e.g. Cambridge ESOL SCE or City & Guild’s Pitman Intermediate Level.
  • Attainment of an acceptable score on an internationally recognized examination of English language proficiency, typically either IELTS or TOFEL.
  • Passing the University English language placement test.

Recognized Secondary Certificates

  • Bahraini secondary School certificate (Tawjihia).
  • Secondary school certificates awarded by private secondary school in the Kingdom of Bahrain provided such certificates are endorsed by the Bahraini Ministry of Education.
  • Arab secondary school certificates awarded by Arab Ministries of Education. Where applicable, the streams of these certificates are given the same consideration as the Bahraini Tawjihia.
  • Any other certificates recognized by the Bahraini Ministry of Education as equivalent to a Tawjihia certificate.

Programme Specific Requirements

The applicants who meet the following programme specific admission requirements will be admitted to the programme:

Academic Score in the Secondary School Certificate (Tawjihia) or its Equivalent

  • Unconditional Acceptance: Applicant academic score (Tawjihi) is equal to or more than 70% (or an equivalent CGPA)
  • Conditional Acceptance; Passing an interview: Candidates who do not meet the above criteria in terms of academic score and specialization may be conditionally accepted subject to passing an interview and evaluation at the college level.
  • Tracks Accepted: Science, Industrial, General
  • Transfer Students: Applicants transferring from other undergraduate programmes are subjected to the external transfer policy and procedure and may receive exemption from equivalent courses completed in their former programme.
