One of the foremost driving forces in our ever changing world is engineering and to be an engineer is to have the capabilities and know-how to meet the needs of people locally and around the world and help to make their lives safer, more comfortable and more productive. The College’s mission is to educate the technological leaders of tomorrow. Our goal is to inculcate intellectual skills in our graduates in order to produce highly competent engineers who utilize critical thinking and problem solving for decision-making and demonstrate ethical and professional behavior.
Engineering education at Ahlia emphasizes the fundamental principles of engineering, mathematics, computing, the natural and social sciences and the ability to develop creative solutions to multi-faceted problems and examine their impact on the environment and society. We offer our engineering students a rich educational experience, an experience that merges intellectual rigor with cross-disciplinary breadth in a student-centered environment. Our engineering students develop strong analytical and problem solving skills that serve them well upon graduation in careers in engineering and in a wide range of other occupations such as IT and entrepreneurial endeavors. This unique engineering education is provided by the college’s international faculty body who are dedicated to excellence in instruction and research and also to close faculty-student interaction both within and outside the classroom. The college is also proud of its faculty’s engagement in scholarly research and their international academic reputation in their fields of expertise.
The College of Engineering offers four-year Bachelor of Science degrees in Computer and Telecommunication Engineering and Mobile and Network Engineering and aspires to expand its offerings to cover other engineering fields needed by the local and regional markets. The College emphasizes a hands-on approach to engineering that enables students to perform a broad panoply of technical tasks with high competence. Learning is furhter enhanced through co-curricula activities such as field visits to local and regional organisations and participation in engineering competitions.
Laboratory-based and hands-on activities provide our students with practical and design experience, as well as close interaction with faculty with cutting-edge knowledge of their fields. Our undergraduate students work on their graduation projects in such diverse areas as wireless and mobile communications, robotics, embedded systems, computer networks, computer security, control systems, networking, and applied signal/image processing. All projects are show-cased on-campus at the end of each semester in an exhibition that illustrates the application of the knowledge acquired to real-life situations . As part of the exhibition, a competition is concurently held and culminates in the award for the best project. In addition, students regularly participate with their projects in local, regional , and international engineering competitions and are often ranked amongst the top competitiors.
The programmes have received full confidence by the national authority for qualifications and quality assurance (QQA) and have recently been updated to meet ABET accreditation requirements in terms of well-balanced curricula providing breadth and depth in both theory and practice of computer , telecommunication, and network engineering disciplines. Preparation for professional certification such as Cisco CCNA and CCNP certifications is also embedded within the curricula through the network-focused courses and provide students with the knowledge and basic professional experience in network administration that they may need in their future career.
