The Bachelor’s Degree programme in Mobile and Network Engineering (BSMNE) is a broad-based programme that provides the student with the technical knowledge and skills required to plan, design, construct and maintain telecommunications networks, equipment and facilities. This programme emphasizes an in-depth understanding of the technologies that support the local and global broadband digital networking, and mobile communication systems that are required for tomorrow’s broadband-interactive information transmission.

Through this programme, students acquire an in-depth knowledge in wireless and mobile communications, Computer networks , network design, Network switching and routing , mobile device programming, modern digital and analogue communication systems, and multimedia service convergences ensuring that graduates are fully prepared for employment within the sector. The several network courses embedded within the curriculum prepare students for professional certification such as Cisco CCNA and CCNP.

The pogramme has recieved full confidence by the National Authorirty for Qualifications and Quality Assurance (QQA) and has recently been updated to meet ABET accreditation requirements in terms of well balanced curricula providing breadth and depth in both therory and practice of mobile and network engineering disciplines.

Graduates from the department of Telecommunication Engineering have the opportunity to work  as Mobile Communications Engineer, Network Engineer, System Engineer, Mobile Network Planning Engineer, RF Cellular Engineer, and Network/ IT administrator.  Besides, they have the opportunity to be instructors in universities after continuing their higher studies.

  • This programme aims to help students to gain knowledge, background , ability , and hands on practice in the area of Mobile and Network Engineering .
  • Students are provided with both theoretical and practical knowledge .
  • All practical sessions are taught in dedicated computer engineering and telecommunication engineering hardware laboratories while software-based practicals are taught in a computer lab equipped with modern programming and simulation software(Matlab/Simulink, Pspice, Java Eclipse, Cisco network Tracer)
  • Assessment is through written theoretical exams and in-lab practical exams. Individual or group projects form part of the assessment in the third and fourth year courses and are evaluated through written and /or oral presentations.
  • The first year and a large part of the second year are common to both engineering programmes, the third and fourth years are more programme-specific and include specialisation courses and the final project in addition to four elective courses including the two Cisco professional courses (CCNP-1 and CCNP-2).
  • The programme is a four year full time Bachelor degree with a total of 134 Credit Hours, these credits include a graduation project.
  • The medium of instruction is 100% English.
