Dean’s Welcome

Here at Ahlia University, we are delighted to welcome you to the College of Arts & Science. Apart from offering degree programmes in Mass Communications & Public Relations and Interior Design, our mission is to provide language skills to all undergraduates regardless of their particular degree programme and area of specialisation. English language is the primary medium of instruction for the vast majority of courses at the University. The College aims to educate all students to become fully competent and comfortable with the English language and open the door for our graduates to work internationally.

Additionally we believe that all graduates should have a thorough grounding in humanities and social sciences to become well-rounded professionals.

Employers today expect their staff to be international professionals capable of working in many different countries with a good understanding of local culture. Here at the College of Arts & Science, we aim to help you to become a global citizen with all the skills necessary to succeed in the 21st century.

To provide excellence in teaching and research in a stimulating learning environment conducive to creativity and innovation. The College is committed to producing competent graduates in the field of humanities such as journalism, media, public relations and languages with emphasis quality research in these areas. It also offers cutting edge courses in science disciplines to prepare students to meet the global challenges faced by modern organizations. In the field of interior design the College produces designers with the highest level of skills, creativity and adaptability.

It also aims to enhance the quality of education in those programmes by constantly monitoring teaching/ learning effectiveness and periodically reviewing its academic programmes.

Apart from offering degree programmes specific to interior design on one hand and mass communication and public relations on the other, the mission of the College revolves around imparting language skills and widening student’s scope in the realm of humanities and social sciences among all students regardless of their degree programme and area of specialisation. As such, the College shares the impressive success of the University so far in the Quality Assurance evaluation reports.

In addition to the service courses in English language, mathematics, Arabic and general studies as university requirements and other elective courses in foreign languages and humanities which are open to all undergraduates, the College offers the following programs:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Interior Design (BSID)
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mass Communication & Public Relations (BSMCPR)
  • Master’s Degree Mass Communication & Public Relations (MSMCPR)

All three programmes are accredited by the Higher Education Council in Bahrain and are running successfully. The College has a high calibre faculty with a diverse cultural background and teaching experience. The academic faculty consists of 5 Full Professors, 10 Associate Professors, 18 Assistant Professors and 10 Lecturers. The college encourages quality research among faculty and students, and faculty members attend and present papers at regional and international conferences and publish their research in reputable journals.

The College maintains a good relationship with the relevant industries. There are strong ties with the local newspapers and radio and T.V. personnel as well as various interior design organisations. This relationship enhances training and job opportunities for the College graduates.

Internships

Students following the two Bachelor’s degree programmes are normally required to go through an internship programme, equivalent to 6 credit hours, which aims at:

  1. Providing students from with an opportunity to integrate knowledge, skills and competencies learned in the classroom with practical application and skills enhancement in a related work-based/professional environment.
  2. Giving students an opportunity to gain experience of a relevant work environment and developing links with professionals in the field they are considering for a future career.
  3. Enhancing student’s employability and building relationships between the university, businesses and the local community.
  4. Giving employers an opportunity to guide and evaluate future talent in their field of specialisation.

Careers

The College normally seeks career opportunities for its graduates in collaboration with the Professional Relations Directorate at the University. The Directorate normally disseminates information regarding job opportunities in the labour market and the college passes on that information to its potential graduates and provides the directorate with their full details. We believe that developing the right skills, understanding the employer needs and helping students take advantage of the opportunities available to them is critical to our graduates’ success. Therefore, the College also organises regular field visits to public and private organisations. This helps students understand real life jobs organisational structure and some of the required skills within those organisations and helps them identify different job roles. In addition, and in collaboration with the Professional Relations Directorate, the College hosts a number of events both on and off campus to help our students prepare for a successful future in the world of work. Various oeganisations are invited to these events to meet the students and discuss job opportunities and their requirements.

Research

The college encourages quality research among faculty and students, and faculty members attend and present papers at regional and international conferences and publish their research in reputable journals. Two faculty members have recently received the First Position Award of the Shaikh Rashid Bin Hmaid Award for Humanities and Social Sciences, Asia Award for the Best Professor in Information Technology Management and the Pride of India Award from the India-International Friendship Society (IIFS).
