Prof. Al Hawaj elected as new President of AAPIHE

Ahlia Universitys president, Professor Abdullah Yousif Al Hawaj has been recently elected as the new president for the Association of Arab Private Institutions for Higher Education, a non-governmental and non-profit organization,  primarily concerned with the long-term development needs of Arab private universities.

The election of Professor Al Hawaj came to honor his efforts in supporting and promoting higher education and academic affairs. It is also considered as a  recognition of the distinguished status of higher education in the Kingdom of Bahrain and the fine reputation Ahlia University enjoys as an prominent institution in the region.

The AAPIHE aims at fostering cooperation among the institutes of higher education and the business community, improving the educational process by encouraging scholarly inquiry related to education and promoting the dissemination and practical application of research results. The Association is also concerned with promoting professional development and encouraging international cooperation in terms of joint research, workshops, seminars and exchange programs.

Private Arab educational  institutions from most Arab countries including Bahrain, Saudi Arabia UAE, Oman, Jordan, Yemen, Lebanon, Egypt and  Syria are represented in the AAPIHE. All members share the common perspective of  enhancing  the Arab national development and reinforce the relationship among Arab private institutions for higher education and the private sector.

On this occasion, Professor Abullah Al Hawaj expressed his thanks and gratitude to the presidents and representatives of Arab private universities for their invaluable confidence and asserted his persistence on developing the Association to serve academic institutions in the Arab world.

Professor Al Hawaj, who will serve as President for the next four year starting from January 2012, further reaffirmed the idea behind forming the AAPIHE , fifteen years ago, namely  to create a community empowered by the investment sector initiatives in high education and promote academic activities.
