Quality & Accreditation

As part of Ahlia University's vision and mission, our aim is to produce top level graduates through high quality teaching. Under the leadership of Dr Ahlam Hassan, AU has formed a Centre for Accreditation and Quality Assurance (CAQA) to fulfil the mission, vision, and goals of AU towards achieving excellence in the quality of our student learning, teaching and research. In anticipation, the Centre strives to ensure that the education offered by AU meets national and international standards through a policy of continuous improvement.

The CAQA was formed with the responsibility of planning, developing, implementing, and managing quality assurance standards across AU. It is also responsible for assuring the implementation of all the necessary plans and policies to meet the requirements for accreditation of the programmes of AU. CAQA works closely in cooperation with all other existing Centres and Committees of AU, one of which is University Quality Assurance Committee (UQAC) and Teaching, Learning and Assessment Committee (TLAC).

The CAQA has established an Internal Quality Management System that insures quality assurance standards are being applied across the University in all the academic and administrative operations. The Internal Quality Management System has enabled AU to fulfil its vision and mission and is measured by the satisfaction rate of the identified stakeholder’s such as alumni, students and employers of AU Graduates as well the number of students employed in the national market.

With the high level of support given to the quality assurance operations at AU, the CAQA team works to ensure the programmes are up-to-date and are of the highest academic standards. The implementation of policies and procedures includes feedback obtained from stakeholder’s such as external advisory board members alongside conducting and market need analysis.

As a result, the Internal Quality Management System has enabled AU to achieve external standards of the Directorate of Higher Education Reviews (DHR) of the National Authority for Education and Training (NAQAAET). In 2010, AU underwent an Institutional Review and obtained outstanding results during its follow-up in 2011 which set AU in the first category among the first class universities as announced by the NAQAAET Annual Report 2011.

As part of the Institutional Reviews, AU has undergone Programme Reviews as part of Cycle 1 of the DHR review and obtained confidence in all its reviewed programmes as listed below:

Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing and Management (BSMM)
Master’s Degree in Business Administration (MBA)
Master’s Degree in Information Technology and Computer Science (MITCS)
Within Cycle 2, the review was changed to be conducted as 'Programmes within College'. The College of Medical and Health Science and the College of Information Technology were subject to a review and both received high level status of confidence for all the programmes offered under both colleges. The programmes are as follows:

Bachelor’s Degree in Physiotherapy (BSPT)
Bachelor’s Degree in Distributed Systems and Multimedia (BSDSM)
Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology (BSIT)
Master’s Degree in Information Technology and Computer Science (MITCS)
In 2014, Ahlia University achieved approval for placement on the National Qualification Framework (NQF) through the efforts of the CAQA. The Centre supported AU as part of the Internal Quality Management System throughout the application and following the placement on the NQF, two academic programmes were validated, the Master’s Degree in Information Technology and Computer Science (MITCS) and the Bachelor’s Degree in Banking and Finance (BSBF).

CAQA is also responsible for promoting accreditation at College level. The CAQA conducts presentations to the Colleges and helps to initiate the accreditation process alongside the implementation of professional certification integration. In 2014, the Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting and Finance (BSAF) was recognised by Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) and an agreement was established to support exemptions to the students who wish to become ACCA qualified.
